Sunday Praise and a Prayer of Joy

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you. On this Palm Sunday, we praise you for all you’ve done, for sending your Son in fulfillment of the coming Savior written about in the Old Testament of your Word.

That Zechariah foretold His coming in this way – “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey,” and that is just what He did.

And so we praise you, Lord Jesus, and honor and glorify you for coming as the only One who could have saved us, and has saved us from our sins. We are filled with joy that you loved us so much that you came to purchase our souls with the sacrifice of your own life, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

There is no joy like the joy of those who have been saved and filled with your Holy Spirit, that we might commune with you always, and know your love, your peace, and your hope. Help us walk in your joy as we keep in mind all you’ve done for us. In Jesus’ holy and mighty name we pray, amen.

Sunday Praise and a Prayer for Love

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you. Thank you for the gift of love, of yourself. You are too grand for us to fully comprehend, to understand your existence and your eternal nature, but we are forever thankful that you created us and through the sacrifice of your Son, by faith, brought us into relationship with you to receive your love, and through the filling of your Holy Spirit, experience its depth, and be given the ability to love you and love others.

Father we ask for forgiveness for the times we’ve failed to love. They are too numerous for us to name, but we ask that you would heal the hearts of those we’ve caused pain, and we thank you for softening our own hearts and granting us repentance and new mercies to begin again.

Hold onto us, Lord, and give us willing hearts to obey you. Keep us from even the temptation to sin, knowing that allowing sin would begin to harden our hearts and break the precious communion we have with you. And when we do sin, help us to quickly repent, so we can abide in your love again.

May we be quick to take the love you give us and your example and love others, our brothers and sisters in the faith, and those who have yet to come to you, and to love our enemies, remembering that

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

This is how you love, Lord, and this is how we want to love, too.  Help us understand more and more the scope of it so we can love others in a way that glorifies you.

In Jesus’ holy and precious name we pray, amen.

Sunday Praise and a Prayer for Discernment

Heavenly Father, we praise your holy and precious name. We’re so thankful for your faithfulness and patience with us even when we are less than faithful. Thank you for holding onto us and never giving up.

Father, we pray today that you would enable us to discern good and evil. We know the enemy schemes against us, and he is able to take your truth and twist and turn it, add in a bit of untruth, and try to make us believe it and follow that belief away from you.

Father, may it never be that way with us. We pray you would fill us with such a love for you that we would hunger and thirst for righteousness, that we would fervently seek you in your word and in prayer, that we would grow up in our faith, desiring and receiving the teaching of solid food.

Mature us, Lord, so that we may be discerning and not allow the enemy to trip us up in even the slightest of lies, deceptions, twists of the truth, or anything that would give him a foothold in our lives. Give us discernment to resist him, no matter who he may be using to spread his lies.

Give us ears attuned to your voice, and the wisdom to discern it from any others.

May we be strong in you, Lord, and in your mighty power, alert and filled with wisdom, that we would never accept anything but the unadulterated, powerful truth that brings the spiritually dead back to life, that moves mountains, that brings healing, that gives us the abundant life you came to to give us.

Thank you, Father, for your everlasting love. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

If you have a prayer request, you can leave a comment here, on Facebook or Twitter, or message or email me, and I would be blessed to pray.

In Christ’s love,

Sunday Praise and a Prayer of Thanksgiving

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you.  We praise you for your sovereignty and your holiness. We praise you because you are worthy of all praise.

Father, we always give you thanks, but during this week when we’ll stop for a day to observe all we have to be thankful for, before the turkey and the stuffing and the pie, we want to honor and bless you by thanking you for all you are and all you’ve done for us.

For many it may be difficult to see what there is to be thankful for. Father, give us hearts that are softened toward you and willing to be thankful, even as a sacrifice to you. We pray that throughout the week you would put on our hearts all we have to be grateful for, for every good gift that’s come from you.

Thank you for Jesus and for His sacrifice on the cross that paid for our sins, that He took the punishment that should have been ours. We are deeply and eternally thankful, Lord.

Thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit who indwells us and leads us, teaches us, comforts us, strengthens us and fills us with your peace that passes all understanding.

Thank you for calling us your children and providing us with everything we need. Thank you for being with us at all times, never leaving or forsaking us, but constantly shining your light and joy into our lives, especially when it seems as though the world around us is falling apart.

Thank you for your faithfulness to keep every one of your promises, like preparing a home for us with you.

Thank you for the people you’ve placed in our lives, for their love, the spiritual fellowship we share, and the friendship we enjoy.

Thank you for every big thing and every small thing we can sometimes overlook in the busyness of our lives.

Thank you for the sun and moon, clouds and rain, breezes and fresh air, flowers and trees, lakes and oceans, sunrises and sunsets, and even for the pets that make us smile.

Thank you for blessing us so abundantly.

And Lord, thank you for prayer. Thank you for allowing us, through Jesus, to come before you with every need, every desire, every fear, every hope, and for hearing us when we do, and for answering us according to your perfect will.

Thank you, Father. Help us to be a people who are always mindful of your blessings and overflowing with thanksgiving.

In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Sunday Praise and a Prayer for Pastors Everywhere

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise your holy and righteous name. You are the First and the Last, the I AM, the Creator of everything and everyone.

Father, we want to thank you today, on this Pastor Appreciation Day, for every pastor who has answered your call on their lives to serve you and your people.

Thank you for giving them the strength and courage they need to do all they do every week, and every day. Thank you for leading them, for giving them your wisdom, for holding up their arms when they’re exhausted from the constant call they face in this high-profile calling, along with all they do for their wives and families.

We pray you would continue to renew their hearts for service, that they would not grow weary, but would continue to serve you in your strength. We pray you would fill them with wisdom to meet the challenges they face, to keep loving the people you’ve given them, and to keep serving you with a pure and sincere heart.

Father we pray for pastors’ wives as well. We know they work hard to support their husbands, to sacrifice time with them, and to serve their families.

Lord, we pray for continued strength and wisdom for them, too.

Lord, may they all know how very much they are loved and appreciated by those of us they serve, and of course by you.

We pray they know their service is not in vain. That they would know you are using them in mighty ways even though they might not always see it. And help them remember they are laying up the most precious treasures in heaven.

Please protect them from the enemy, fortify them, and fill them with your peace. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Sunday Praise and a Prayer to Be Wise Stewards

Dear Heavenly Father, we love you and praise you. We are so blessed to call you our Father, and to know that we can put every ounce of faith in you and you alone. You are our Provider, our Redeemer, our Hope and our Comfort.

Father, you are our Rock. Whenever everything else around is shaky, we stand upon you, the immovable, unshakeable, unchangeable Rock.

Help us remember to be wise stewards of the grace and time you’ve given us, putting into practice the words of Christ, building upon the foundation you’ve laid through Him so we can remain steadfast in our faith no matter what comes.

May we continually stand upon the Rock of our salvation, shining a light of hope and encouragement for believers and unbelievers alike, that through it all you will be glorified.

Thank you, precious Lord. In Jesus’ holy and worthy name we pray, amen.

Sunday Praise and a Prayer for All the Saints

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you.  We lift up your righteous and holy name above all names as the one true God, the maker of heaven and earth, the one who created us to have relationship with you, to know you, to commune with you, to be a grand part of your creation that would glorify your goodness and beauty and grace.

Father we pray for all the saints. We pray you would consecrate us, that we would understand you have made us a holy people that are meant to be separate from the world, that is, to live in a different way, to have a different perspective, to see people and circumstances through your eyes rather than as the world sees.

We pray you would lovingly convict each of us of any sins we’ve allowed as we’ve become complacent, and that we would repent, turn, and do the right thing, live the right way so that we would honor the calling you’ve so graciously given us.

As we do that, let us be a light in the darkness, shining brightly for the world to see what true love and grace and forgiveness are so that many come to know you through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We pray you would encourage us and fill us with joy that we might have strength in the face of the enemy, and with your peace that passes all understanding no matter what storms rage around us.

We pray we would be one just as you and your Son are one, and that we are all one in you.

We pray we would be filled with the Holy Spirit, that we would worship you in Spirit and in truth.

Let us remember who we are in you, Lord, that we are children of the King, holy and righteous because, through your Son, you have made us so.

Sanctify us that we might live as your chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for possession, so that we might speak of the praises of the One who has called us out of darkness into your marvelous light.

May we empty ourselves and let you fill us up with your Spirit who gives us everything we need to live in these hard times, and not only to live, but to prosper and to be victorious. May we come together and live for you and you alone, and bring you all the glory due your name. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Sunday Praise and a Mother’s Day Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you. We praise you for your goodness and love, for your heart full of grace and mercy.  Thank you for showing us your character in the love of a mom. That in her we see your unconditional love, your tender nurturing, your amazing grace. I pray for moms everywhere, that no matter what situation they’re in today, they would feel your love. I pray you would continue to strengthen them and give them wisdom. I pray you would comfort those who are grieving. I pray for all of us, that no matter what stage of motherhood we’re in, we would look to you and draw on your character that we might be moms who give you glory, and leave a godly legacy for our children.  In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Sunday Praise and a Prayer for More and More…and More Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise your holy and precious name.  We give you glory for all you’ve done for us and all you will do for and in us and through us.  We praise you for your grace and mercy, for your forgiveness, and for your loving kindness.

Lord, help us remember that you already know our thoughts and what’s in our hearts, and to remember and believe that nothing can separate us from your love so we will keep coming to you with our anxious thoughts, with our unforgiveness, with our anger, and with anything and everything we struggle with so we can let you into the midst of it to speak to our hearts and heal and deliver us from those things that will keep us from following you wholeheartedly.

Help us approach your throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.  Thank you, Lord, for keeping us and showing us the way, all the way home.  In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
